Membership code of conduct and commitments

HCA preserves Hazara culture, promotes unity and community development, and advocates for the rights, dignity, and safety of Hazaras worldwide.

1. Commitment to the HCA. Support the welfare, dignity, unity, and advancement of Hazara people in Australia.
2. Voice against injustice. Stand against discrimination, persecution, violence, and human rights abuses affecting Hazaras regardless of country, territory, or political boundaries.
3. Respect and unity. Treat one another with respect, dignity, and courtesy regardless of age, gender, religion, political opinion, or social background.
4. Integrity and honesty. Act honestly and in the best interests of the association at all times.
5. Active participation. Participate in meetings, events, campaigns, and community initiatives to the best of your ability.
6. Accountability. Fulfil leadership and committee responsibilities diligently and transparently.
7. Responsible use of social media. Conduct yourself responsibly on social media and avoid behaviour that could damage the reputation, integrity, or unity of the association.
8. Democratic decision-making. Respect decisions made through lawful and democratic processes of the association.
9. Community service. Promote volunteerism, cooperation, and service to the community.
10. Protection of the association’s values. Uphold the objectives, constitution, and values of the association and work towards strengthening its future.

Membership responsibilities

Meeting attendance. All members are encouraged to attend regular meetings, online or in person, to remain informed and contribute to decision-making.

Portfolio holders and committee members. An office bearer or committee member unable to attend three consecutive meetings must give reasonable notice and an explanation, or request temporary leave. Failure to do so may result in committee review of their position.

Dual leadership restriction. Members of another Hazara community organisation, association, or advocacy group may join HCA. To avoid conflicts of interest and ensure independent governance, they shall not hold executive or committee positions within HCA.

Respectful conduct. Promote unity and cooperation. Avoid harassment, bullying, intimidation, and discrimination. Respect differing opinions and viewpoints.

HCA advocates for justice, equality, and human rights, raises awareness of injustice affecting Hazara communities, engages with government, media, civil society, and community leaders, and supports peaceful and lawful advocacy.

Students’ fees are waived. Unemployed members, pensioners, and people experiencing financial hardship may request an exemption. No person shall be excluded solely because of financial hardship.
